The boy walked for days in the heat and dust of the desert. He was thankful when the sun finally set in the evenings because it cooled the land.
The desert at night was a dangerous place. The boy slept lightly, watching out for wild animals, snakes and scorpions.
He had been away from home for weeks and he missed his family. He could search the coastal villages for his brother, or go back through the fertile land to the Nile where he could catch a boat going home.
Should he go to the coast, or through the fertile land towards the Nile?
