This ivory fragment shows the pharaoh Den attacking an enemy with a mace. Maces like the one in this scene were used throughout ancient Egyptian history as a weapons.

Maces were also a symbol of power. Pharaohs in the New Kingdom often had sceptres that were shaped like a mace.
