Today most Egyptologists are against unwrapping mummies. Instead, they are using science to learn about the ancient Egyptians. One way of learning about mummies is to x-ray them. Egyptologists can see what amulets and jewellery are in the mummy's wrappings, and scientists can study bone structure by looking at an x-ray.
Medical tests have also been done on mummies which were unwrapped in the past. Through these tests, scientists can work out the age of a person, what they ate, and what diseases they may have had.
